 It’s a wonderful thing to be able to go to work in your pajamas - that’s something that a person with an internet based home business is grateful for each and every day as they sit down to begin the day’s work. There is the freedom of setting your own schedule, avoiding that awful daily commute on clogged highways and crowded subways, working for yourself, and being accountable to no one but you!

However, to succeed in an internet business you do need to have a lot of discipline and a positive “can do” attitude, no matter how business is looking at the moment. All of us, whether or not our business is home based have slow periods. The problem is staying motivated when your internet business is slow.

There are some ways which can help you cope and reduce the worries that can come with a time of slower business. First of all, remember that all business is cyclical. This is equally true of the construction business as it is of a home based internet business. There will simply be times when things are a little slow.

By setting aside a little for a rainy day when business is booming, you will be able to ride out a stretch when your business isn’t bringing in as much as you may have been previously. Things will look up, remember this and above all, stay positive! A turnaround is just around the corner for your business.

When you’re feeling down, repeat to yourself “I have no boss”. This will surely bring a smile to your face in no time. You can also go for a walk or bike ride; physical activity relieves stress and helps you think clearer - this can be one of the best times to brainstorm new business strategies.

Another thing you can do, especially if your business is affiliate marketing is to expand the reach of your business by redoubling your article marketing efforts. Write short, informative yet entertaining articles which are relevant to your niche. Place these on your website and submit them to article directories.

When these articles are picked up, the links which each contains in its resource box will give you more opportunities to create traffic and thus, commissions for your site. Throwing yourself into marketing efforts is a proactive solution which will take your mind off of your business being slow and also help out your business at the same time. This tactic can work for you even if yours is not an affiliate marketing business.

Just create content that will make people want to visit your site and things will be looking up before you know it. I’ve said it before, but the most important thing is to not let a little slump get you down. Staying positive will help, while getting depressed about a slide in profits will likely result in your becoming less motivated - a self-perpetuating cycle.

Don’t fall into this trap. Instead, believe in yourself and your business. You’ll find that this will make things happen for you and be a great help in keeping you motivated when your internet business is slow.

How do you choose which online store to patronize? When I’m looking for a site, I first look for selection and brand names. Unless I’m looking for a rare item, I always go for the online store that has at least 5,000 items in stock. Next, I look for organization. I like to shop at sites that organize their items by easy-to-find categories. I don’t want pet supplies to pop up when I’m looking for jewelry, or to search for personal electronics and have outdoor furniture appear in my search results.

I’m also a big fan of sites that dropship. When my items come directly from the manufacturer, I find that they arrive faster and in better condition. Plus, since the site doesn’t have to worry about stocking inventory, the owners tend to pay more attention to customer service.

Since I’m somewhat of a privacy nut, I prefer to shop on sites that don’t sell or disclose my personal information to third parties (other than the shipper) without first giving me the opportunity to prevent my information from being shared.

Security is also extremely important to me, especially since I’m sharing sensitive information like my credit card number. So, before I click, I always make sure the site uses a secure server with encryption technology. If a site accepts PayPal, that’s even better.

 What makes a dedicated network marketer? In fact, is there a difference between a dedicated networker and a successful one? This is something that can be confusing to many because being dedicated doesn’t mean you’ll be successful.

There’s an old saying relating to working smarter and not harder. In today’s network marketing business world where the renegade is making huge inroads into the industry, if you’re not working smarter then you’re probably being left far behind.

The internet is fast becoming the secret weapon for MLMers. What started out as a good idea not long ago has spawned into one of the biggest revolutions the industry has seen. But fears that there will be a bottleneck of network marketers vying for prospects online is not a factor.

In the days of old school MLM when fears that a market would become fished out are starting to surface with the new breed of networker. But the truth is, there are literally thousands and thousands of new people coming online everyday and many of them are looking for a home business opportunity.

And this is where the alert internet network marketer can take advantage of the work smarter rule. It’s great to be dedicated but dedication can often be confused with progress and while you may be putting effort into your business, unless you’re seeing growth and a new influx of leads coming into your business funnel on a consistent basis then you’re efforts will be wasted.

The key to beginning to work smarter starts with prospecting. If you’re approaching every one you know and people you half know about a business opportunity then you’re not working smart. If you’re buying leads and spending hours and hours on the phone copping rejection after rejection then you’re not working smart.

However, if you’re placing your marketing and promotions in front of a hungry and targeted network marketing business crowd then you’re working smart. Here’s and example of what we’re talking about…if you’re fishing freshwater bass then you wouldn’t be dropping a line in the ocean trying to catch one. But if you’re fishing for freshwater bass and you drop your bait and line in a freshwater lake where they hang out then what are the chances you’ll attract attention and have them chasing your bait.

Pretty good and that’s the same thinking behind putting your offer in front of a targeted hungry crowd who are actually looking for a network marketing business. This is exactly where you have an advantage of prospecting online. There are millions of people looking for a home business so target your marketing in that direction.

One way is to use relevant keywords in your article content whether submitting to directories or using web 2 properties. Another is to use those keywords prominently in your article titles. Yet another is to link those keywords within your articles while your resource boxes should also highlight them.
